match • a: It literally means "powdered tea" and is made by stone grinding dried and aged leaves from the tea plant into a fine powder. Matcha contains as much caffeine as a cup of coffee but gives an “alert calm” due to a natural substance it contains called l-theanine, which induces relaxation without drowsiness. It is known for its high antioxidant properties due to it's being made from whole leaves and is chock-full of polyphenols, which data has shown protects against heart disease and cancer, as well as better blood sugar regulation, blood pressure reduction, and anti-aging. Another polyphenol in matcha called EGCG has been shown in research to boost metabolism, and slow or halt the growth of cancer cells. I think we'll be having these babies for breakfast.

Over on the blog, wellness expert, Katie Lemons (@twist_of_lemons) walks us through how to conquer cramps head on during the week of our cycle. Part one of her blog discusses the foods and supplements we should be adding to our diet, including ginger, zinc sulfate, fennel, cinnamon.
