A growing number of brands are re-allocating their marketing budgets, away from Instagram. While the #socialnetwork’s ad revenues are expected to hit $9 billion in the US this year (up from $6.1 billion in 2018) according to eMarketer, the frustration among fashion advertisers is growing. Why? For one, costs are rising and reach is declining. The average digital ad costs 12 percent more than it did two years ago, according to Adobe Digital Insights. Brands have increased spending on digital ads by 42 percent over the last two years, but visits to those same brands were only up 11 percent, Adobe found. #Facebook disputes these figures. In June, the company said in its second quarter, the average price per ad decreased by four percent, and that ad impressions increased 33 percent. But users have become suspicious of ads, too. Brands are seeing an 18 percent engagement decrease on #Instagram this year, according to a study from data consulting firm Trust Insights, while #influencers are experiencing a 44 percent engagement decrease. As a result, brands have returned to old-school approaches like direct mail, which has been a winning strategy for companies like M.Gemi, Away and Hims. Billboards are seeing a resurgence, too, with outdoor advertising hitting $38 billion last year, a 35 percent increase since 2010, per a report from ad data company Zenith published on Recode.

Dark Social

由於該平台溢價成本約為每1000次瀏覽10美元——而 Instagram 廣告的 CPM(Cosr Per 1000 impression,每千次曝光成本)平均為8美元。

Burberry’s Instagram campaigns tend to be pretty conventional: photos of #GigiHadid and other It-girls adorned in the British luxury brand’s clothes, or glossy shots of the latest bag or fragrance. On social media platform TikTok though, Burberry tried something different. Last week, the brand issued a “challenge” for users to post videos of themselves attempting to contort their hands in the shape of the letters “TB,” representing the updated Thomas Burberry monogram. One week, 30,000 videos and 57 million views later, Burberry has an authentic viral hit on its hands, albeit one a fair bit sillier than its usual campaigns. One popular video of a Scottish influencer named Simmy Landa dancing while using her hands to make the monogram has nearly 10,000 likes. Fashion brands are only just starting to test the waters with #TikTok, which has rocketed to the top of the app charts with over one billion downloads, according to Sensor Tower, a mobile app data firm. Its simple interface, which allows users to upload 15-second video clips, often set to music or covered in stickers and other effects, has proven particularly irresistible to Gen Z: 66 percent of the platform’s 500 million global users are under 30, according to Business of Apps, a data analytics firm. But where Gen Z goes, advertisers quickly follow. Brands like #Burberry, Calvin Klein and Guess, which are working overtime to reel in the youngest consumer cohort, see the potential for a viral sensation of their own. But will fashion brands truly be able to embrace the platform? Read the full story at businessoffashion.com [Link in bio]
