如果穿著Prada的惡魔是指《Vogue》雜誌總編輯 Anna Wintour,那 Diana Vreeland 可能就是撒旦了。這麼說好像有些誇張,但在時尚界確實有這樣的一句話,”Before the devil in Prada, there was Diana Vreeland”。
從 Harper’s Bazaar 的專欄、Vougue 的主編時期、再到大都會博物館服裝學院的特別顧問,DV 的語錄精采到可以集合起來直接出一本書。而 DV 最為人所知且受人推崇的正是她的「原創性」。因為太有想法和自信,所以她在《Vogue》當雜誌主編時並不是為了她的老闆或消費者,事實上,她從並不迎合任何人,除了她自己,「你不是要滿足人們的渴求,而是要啟發他們對未知的渴望。」
很多事情的發生,幸運也許佔了一大部分,但 Diana 成為時尚界的不朽傳奇這件事絕非偶然。除了豐富的創造力與熱情,更多人不知道的是她對於細節的堅持。當 DV 任職於 Vouge 時,不只是口頭告知助理各項物件的擺放位置,還使用圖樣及標籤清清楚楚地分門別類,從煙灰缸、香菸,甚至礦泉水、午餐都無一例外。這聽起來也許很瘋狂,但就是這種追求完美的個性,讓大至雜誌整體的風格,小至單張照片的呈現都能完全掌握在DV手裡,降低不必要的意外發生。
